Plasmodesmata

Image Processing existing images.

Creating Models of possible structures.
Using a simulated Electron Microscope.

Just for fun: some silly pictures of Plasmodesmata...

(Elusive Things that lurk in Plant Cell Walls)

Plasmodesmata are small tubes that connect plant cells to each other. They are small (~50nm in diamater) and very difficult to seperate from the cell wall for study.

I'm trying to use computer techniques to assist study by a team in the Monash Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, using image processing, simulation and modelling.
